Mustism is a disorder where a person is unable to produce vocalizations because of the inability to produce speech. This can be attributed to many causes, including physiological, developmental or anxiety based disorders. This type of disorder is pervalent among all cultures, races and socioeconomic class. There are different types of mutism, including mutism caused by physiological impairment (including the very pervalent akinetic mutism,) selective mutism, mutism caused by autism, selective mutism and much more.
